Psychiatric Evaluation & Medication Management

Dr. Kathleen Prendergast, a nurse practitioner, will evaluate each client as an individual via a personal interview. Relevant medical, social and family history will be reviewed. Specific psychological/emotional issues that are of concern to the client will be addressed. Laboratory tests will be ordered if necessary to rule out any medical conditions that may be contributing to symptoms or behaviors for which the client is seeking help. Psychotherapy will be provided, in conjunction with psychiatric medications if necessary. Genetic testing will be conducted if indicated to assist in treatment decisions. Referrals will be made to medical or psychological specialties as deemed necessary.

Dr. Prendergast specializes in treatment for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, insomnia, attention deficit disorders, trauma and stress related disorders, substance related and addictive disorders.

Counseling

Counselors provide services to people facing difficult circumstances or making unhelpful choices. Counselors often provide help focused on finding solutions in the here-and-now for problems with mental health or addictive behaviors.

Chris Tomkins uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to assist clients. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is one of the most popular and proven forms of therapy. It is a goal-oriented therapy focused on addressing unhelpful thoughts, behaviors and feelings. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is also strongly supported by scientific research. With MI, counselors facilitate compassionate conversations that help clients identify goals, strengthen their motivation for change, and form specific plans to reach their goals.

Dr. Prendergast and Mr. Tomkins collaborate to enhance client care. If you choose to receive both counseling and medication from Caldwell Mental Health, you may benefit from having multiple team members working together on your treatment goals.

The cost of the visit is due at the time of service. Caldwell Mental Health providers are not participants in any insurance networks. Clients may be able to use out-of-network insurance benefits. Caldwell Mental Health has opted out of Medicare, so it is not possible to use Medicare out-of-network benefits.
